Beloved, when was the last time you ventured outdoors, feeling the earth beneath your feet? As in barefoot walking outside? Because I'm all over the surprising benefits of this down to earth way to care for your health and stay grounded.
Now that I’ve gotten everyone’s attention on the amazing benefits of Forest Bathing, haha (if you need to catch up on that, click here) - I'm feeling quite like the wild wellness ambassador.
And right after that, we went inward with question-answers on how to reclaim imagination and awaken hope.
But I want to refer back to an old, old, old question of mine long before I started trumpeting about Forest Bathing or Forest Schooling.
Have you ever experienced the profound sense of calm and rejuvenation that often follows a day spent walking on the beach or swimming in the ocean?
Emerging scientific research (such as I shared in my Forest Bathing email) continues to shed light on the remarkable health benefits of direct contact with the natural ground.
Recharge with Earthing, dear Earthling
It might sound like something from the fringes of science fiction, but consider this: our bodies are, in essence, electrical beings. You're electric, baby! This inherent electricity is why Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can restart a heart that has stopped beating.
In our daily lives, exposure to pollutants and modern technologies like Wi-Fi, electromagnetic waves, and mobile phones can introduce an abundance of positive electrons, often referred to as free radicals, into our systems. This surplus of positive ions can disrupt our body's natural balance.
Grounding, sometimes referred to as 'Earthing,' is said to play a pivotal role in returning us to a state of equilibrium. The Earth, with its negative grounding charge, helps us neutralize these excess positive ions.
When we make direct contact with the Earth, negative ions from its surface rush into our bodies, effectively discharging the unpaired positive ions we've accumulated over time.
Grounding is said to offer a range of potential benefits, including:
- Reducing inflammation and chronic pain
- Lower back support due to strengthened gluteal and core muscles
- Improving the quality of sleep
- Boosting overall energy levels
- Easing muscle tension and alleviating headaches
- Lowering stress levels
- Enhancing blood pressure and circulation
- Heightening mental clarity
I thought that was pretty cool too! Being barefoot is still perfectly normal for the human body. Remember - common doesn’t mean “normal”; and uncommon doesn’t mean “abnormal or weird.” And I’m sure you know I’m about to say how Forest Bathing is the perfect set up for Earthing/Grounding, haha!
So here’s my challenge -
Try to incorporate grounding into your daily routine at least once a day. Even if it’s on concrete, if you don’t have dirt in your vicinity. The ions are still there! Are you up for it? Let me know by leaving a comment below.
Get your hopes up,
'Dami
