Designer's Journal Entry:
Huge, sizzling barrels of colorful hot-dye. The smell of hot wax and the swoop and splash of the artist's brush. It wasn't a field trip to the city of Abeokuta - an ancient bedrock of traditional indigo tie-dye fabric art.
No, just a couple of hours of a bumpy ride away, ancient artistry lay within our own compound as my sister and mother created unique masterpieces of fabric and fashion. They were prolific and their staff were kept busy in production- a timely enterprise to meet the demands abroad for such.
Though my sister's patterns were vastly different from this traditional adire pattern - they're both a head nod to the art form itself.
